Stephanie Murphy (FL-07)
U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy proudly represents central Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is a former educator, businesswoman, and national security specialist.
Congresswoman Murphy is working to create jobs, strengthen our Armed Forces, and take care of our veterans as a member of the powerful House Armed Services Committee. She is also vigorously promoting central Florida entrepreneurs and small businesses as a member of the House Small Business Committee.
Congresswoman Murphy is a member of the New Democratic Coalition, the fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition, the Problem Solvers Caucus, and the Bipartisan Working Group because she is working to bring together both parties to balance the budget, reduce burdensome regulations, grow the middle class, promote equality, defend women’s rights, and protect our seniors.
Previous to her service in Congress, Congresswoman Murphy was an educator at Rollins College and businesswoman in the private sector. She also previously served as a national security specialist in the Office of the U.S. Secretary of Defense where she received numerous awards for her distinguished service, including the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service. She worked on a wide range of security issues from counterterrorism, foreign military relations to strategic planning for the department. Prior to her public service, Congresswoman Murphy was a strategy consultant at Deloitte Consulting.
Congresswoman Murphy has also been involved in the community with roles in several nonprofits such as Support Our Scholars, an organization that helps economically challenged young women attend and complete college, and Creative City Project, an initiative to elevate the status of performing arts by making it more accessible to the community. She has also counseled numerous women- and minority-owned businesses in central Florida to help them start and grow.
Congresswoman Murphy holds an M.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a B.A. in Economics from the College of William and Mary. She lives in Winter Park with her husband and two young children, Liem and Maya.
