Vice President Joe Biden selects Harris as his running mate ahead of 2020 elections
WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Vice President Joe Biden announced Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate. With this historic announcement, Senator Harris became the first Asian American as the nominee for Vice President of a major party. The AAPI Victory Fund congratulates both Senator Harris and the Biden campaign for this groundbreaking and historic selection.
“Senator Harris has been a necessary voice that advocates for the AAPI community,” said Varun Nikore, president of the AAPI Victory Fund. “In April, the Senator spoke to our community, alongside Congressman Ted Lieu and MSNBC anchor Richard Lui. In May, Senator Harris provided remarks at our AAPI Progressive Summit. We have already seen since the announcement, AAPIs are overjoyed and energized. We are ecstatic that the Vice President Biden selected her to be his running mate and we will continue to mobilize to dump Trump this November!”
Founded in 2015 to mobilize Asian American and Pacific Islanders eligible voters and moving them to the ballot box, it was the second national organization to endorse Joe Biden for President in January 2020. The board and staff of the AAPI Victory Fund are seasoned national progressive political voices. They are available for on-air and in-print commentary heading into the DNC Convention next week.
