WASHINGTON - Today marks the one year anniversary of the tragic mass shootings in the Atlanta-area where a white gunman targeted Asian American businesses, which resulted in the tragic death of eight individuals, six of whom were Asian American women.  

AAPI Victory Fund acting President Brad Jenkins issued the following statement:

“Today, our AAPI community mourns with the family, friends and loved ones of the eight victims of the Atlanta-area shootings. 

“We remember March 16 with horror and sorrow, as we learned of the hate-filled attack one year ago. Immediately after, we called upon the nation for healing and allyship, and demanded accountability and action from our leaders. Sadly, these horrific and senseless acts of violence have continued against our community, especially against Asian American women and the elderly. The AAPI Victory Fund stands with all AAPI women who have continued to rise in the face of violence, harassment, and trauma. 75% of AAPI women report having experienced racism in the past year. 

“We cannot forget March 16, nor can we ignore the continued attacks on AAPIs that have become all too common. The violence against our community begins and ends with leadership. It isn’t enough to condemn anti-Asian hate. We must actively call on our civic leaders for meaningful action to protect and secure all vulnerable communities.”
