AAPI Victory Fund Condemns the Anti-Asian Hate Campaign Directed at CA-45 Candidate Jay Chen

WASHINGTON - The AAPI Victory Fund strongly condemns the anti-Asian hate campaign directed at Lieutenant Commander Jay Chen by Michelle Steel in California’s 45th Congressional District.

AAPI Victory Fund President & CEO Brad Jenkins issued the following statement:

“Anti-Asian hate violence and speech have continued to affect our families and communities. It is beyond disappointing to witness Michelle Steel, a sitting Member of Congress and an AAPI woman, exploit the fear and xenophobia against our community in an egregious campaign attack against Jay Chen.

“Jay, the child of Taiwanese immigrants, has served our country honorably as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves and as a trustee for a community college. We strongly believe that he will continue to serve with compassion and integrity as the next representative for California’s 45th Congressional District rather than with a partisan and dangerous agenda.”

AAPI Victory Fund Board Member David Lee issued the following statement:

“Our country has already been torn by politicians who continue to leverage misinformation. These lies fuel actions of hate against communities like ours. We call on the voters to hold Steel accountable for her irresponsible and dangerous actions by voting her out this November.”
