AAPI Victory Fund Congratulates Michelle Wu on Advancing in Boston Mayoral Election

WASHINGTON - Last night, Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu was one of two candidates that advanced in a preliminary contest for the November election for Boston Mayor. In March of this year, AAPI Victory Fund endorsed Wu as one of its “Rising Star” candidates for its slate of mayoral candidates. If elected, Wu will be the first AAPI mayor for the city of Boston.

“We give our heartfelt congratulations to Michelle Wu on her win last tonight,” said Varun Nikore, president of AAPI Victory Fund. “Michelle is used to breaking barriers, from being the first woman of color to lead the city council in 2016 to advocating for transformative policies that uplift all Bostonians. We are so proud of how far she’s come, and we are excited to continue on the Wu Train to elect Michelle this November!”

“Last night, many of us felt represented as we watched Michelle Wu advance to the November election for Boston Mayor,” said Shekar Narasimhan, chair and co-founder of AAPI Victory Fund. “Michelle’s story is one many of us know dearly - she is the daughter of immigrants and knows first hand the power of representation in visibility in our government. In her time as City Councilor, she not only achieved historic firsts, but she also expanded the ranks to include more women, people of color, and young people in positions of leadership. We are thrilled by last night's results and look forward to many more like this in our other endorsements across the country.”
