AAPI Victory Fund Criticizes Los Angeles County Councilmembers After Racist and Homophobic Remarks, Calls for Immediate Resignation for Those Involved

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, leaked audio revealed racist and hateful comments made by Los Angeles City Councilmembers toward their colleagues during a conversation about redistricting. The racist comments made by Councilmembers Nury Martinez, Kevin de Leon, and Gil Cedillo show that they are unfit to serve the diverse Los Angeles community. AAPI Victory Fund has issued the following statement, calling for immediate resignation from all involved.

AAPI Victory Fund President and CEO Brad Jenkins issued the following statement:

“We at the AAPI Victory Fund are truly appalled at the racist, homophobic, and abhorrent comments that were made by these elected leaders in Los Angeles. We hold the strong belief that our elected officials, in both the private and public spheres, must display a dedication to equity and inclusivity. Los Angeles is a city that is filled with diversity, and to hear that councilmembers have made derogatory remarks towards the same people that they are elected to represent is despicable. We, at the AAPI Victory Fund, are calling for an immediate resignation for all involved.”
