AAPI Victory Fund Congratulates Bruce Harrell, Seattle’s First Asian American Mayor

WASHINGTON — Earlier this month, Bruce Harrell made history as Seattle’s first Asian-American mayor and the city’s 57th to take office. The AAPI Victory Fund is once again proud to support a mayor dedicated to elevating the needs and voices of the AAPI community.

AAPI Victory Fund Founder and Chairman Shekar Narasimhan issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the AAPI Victory Fund, I am pleased to congratulate Bruce Harrell, the next mayor of Seattle. As a native Seattleite and city council member, Harrell has been committed to race and social justice legislation, and uplifting the voices of his community. Harrell understands the importance of representation and is enthusiastic about bringing representation to the residents of Seattle. With 14 percent of the electorate in King County, AAPI voters have shown who they want to represent them, and continue to show up to shape elections.

“As Harrell takes on a new journey in his political career, we are eager to see what he accomplishes for not only Seattle’s AAPI community, but the Seattle community as a whole.”

Vibrant Cities Co-founder and CEO James Wong issued the following statement:

“Bruce’s victory as incoming mayor symbolizes a new era for the great people of Seattle. As Seattle’s first Asian American mayor, Harrell will bring his passion for community and equal representation to create a new perspective when it comes to enacting legislation that will serve the people of our city. I look forward to seeing the great things he does as mayor.”
