AAPI Victory Fund Congratulates Katherine Tai on her Confirmation as U.S. Trade Representative

Tai is the first woman of color to lead the agency

WASHINGTON - Yesterday, in a 98-0 vote, the U.S. Senate confirmed Katherine Tai as U.S. Trade Representative. Tai is the first AAPI member of President Biden’s Cabinet. In November, the AAPI Victory Fund recommended Tai to be U.S. Trade Representative and President Biden nominated her to the position last December.

“We congratulate Ambassador Tai in her unanimous Senate confirmation, the first of any Biden nominee,” said Shekar Narasimhan, chair and founder of AAPI Victory Fund. “Ambassador Tai has a breadth of experience in her field, with demonstrated work in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and in Congress. This has been clear that the Senate agrees that she is the best candidate for this role. We are thrilled to have Ambassador Tai representing AAPIs at the highest levels of government, and urge the Senate to continue to confirm additional AAPIs.”
