AAPI Victory Fund Congratulates Neera Tanden on Her Nomination to the Office of Management and Budget

If Confirmed, Tanden to be first AAPI to Serve in Role

WASHINGTON - This week, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris nominated Neera Tanden to serve as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). If confirmed, Tanden will be the first woman of color and first Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) to lead the agency. Tanden would also be the first Democratic Asian American woman to serve in the Cabinet. She is currently the president and CEO of the Center for American Progress.

“AAPI Victory Fund is thrilled by the nomination of Neera Tanden to OMB,” said Shekar Narasimhan, chair and founder of AAPI Victory Fund. “Neera has been a dear friend to our organization, helping us elect Democrats across the country by mobilizing Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. But more importantly, Neera has the experience, leadership and values to support working families, reduce economic inequalities and promote economic growth. We congratulate Neera and the Biden-Harris administration for the selection of a candidate who will help our country build back better.”

“Neera’s nomination is a culmination of decades of hard work and service to our country, “ said Bel Leong-Hong, co-founder and board member of AAPI Victory Fund. “While we are proud that she would be the first woman of color and first AAPI to lead OMB, we are even prouder of everything she represents. Her experiences that started from relying on social safety nets as a child to then leading organizations that promote policies that protect these programs to now this nomination exemplifies an America that we strive toward. This is no longer just an American Dream, but an American reality.”
