AAPI Victory Fund Endorses Nevada Gubernatorial Incumbent Steve Sisolak and Nevada Secretary of State Candidate Cisco Aguilar

WASHINGTON — Today, AAPI Victory Fund announced their latest endorsements for the 2022 election cycle in Nevada: incumbent Governor Steve Sisolak and Cisco Aguilar, candidate for Secretary of State

Governor Steve Sisolak has dedicated over two decades to tirelessly serving the people of Nevada. After serving as the District 2 member of the Nevada Board of Regents and as a member and then chairman of the Clark County Commission, Governor Sisolak was first elected governor in 2018. Governor Sisolak understands the challenges Nevadans are facing, and throughout his first term, he lowered household costs by investing federal relief funds in expanding childcare, affordable housing, workforce development, and finding solutions to expand access to health care and reduce the cost of prescription drugs. Governor Sisolak has kept his first-term promise to never raise taxes on Nevadans and will continue to maintain this promise.

Nevada’s Secretary of State maintains various duties, including handling election administration. Cisco Aguilar understands the importance of this responsibility and is committed to defending every eligible Nevadan's right to vote, removing barriers to voter participation, and making Nevada elections as transparent as possible to maintain the public's trust. Aguilar would be an exemplary Secretary of State; one who is committed to modernizing, safeguarding and strengthening our democracy, our elections process and the voting rights of every Nevadan.

As the fastest-growing racial or ethnic demographic in Nevada, AANHPIs make up 11% of the state’s electorate, a figure that shows a 49% increase in AANHPI voter eligibility since 2012. It is clear that the surging AANHPI electorate is becoming a crucial election-determining vote and a rising political force in the Silver State.

AAPI Victory Fund President and CEO Brad Jenkins issued the following statement:

“I am honored to lead the AAPI Victory Fund in announcing our endorsements of Governor Steve Sisolak and Cisco Aguilar; two trailblazing public servants in Nevada with an unwavering commitment to the best interest of their respective constituents—especially that of our Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community.

“Our country remains at a divisive inflection point, and it is crucial that our AANHPI communities elect strong leaders - at all levels of government - who embody the urgency of this moment, and work tirelessly to create meaningful solutions. We are proud to endorse these two accomplished candidates who remain dedicated to equity, justice and action. Incumbent Governor Steve Sisolak and Secretary of State candidate Cisco Aguilar have shown that the time for action is now and we look forward to the urgency and determination they will each carry with them to their respective positions if elected this November.”

AAPI Victory Fund National Political Director Shehn Datta issued the following statement:

“At AAPI Victory Fund, we are proud to endorse incumbent Steve Sisolak for Governor, and candidate Cisco Aguilar for Secretary of State in Nevada this November. Nevada’s AANHPI community is in a unique position – as the fastest growing sector of the electorate, we are tasked with the responsibility of the marginal vote, deciding who the next Governor and Secretary of State could be.

“We look forward to watching Governor Steve Sisolak continue to transform Nevada for the better, and we are eager to see Cisco Aguilar step into the role of Secretary of State and open doors, making participation in the democratic system more equitable and accessible for the people of the great Silver State.”

Nevada Gubernatorial Candidate Steve Sisolak issued the following statement:

“I'm grateful to have the AAPI Victory Fund on my team this year. Our AAPI communities deserve every opportunity to succeed and thrive in our state, and during my first term, we took steps to make that the reality by ensuring our economy is more inclusive, standing up to Asian hate, expanding voting rights, supporting all small business owners, and protecting the rights of non-native English speakers. In my second term, we will build on our progress to keep our state inclusive and welcoming to all.”

Nevada Secretary of State Candidate Cisco Aguilar issued the following statement:

"I'm honored to have the endorsement of AAPI Victory Fund! The AAPI community is one of the fastest-growing and most engaged in Nevada, and their votes make a difference. As Secretary of State, I'll do everything I can to ensure that they're supported at the ballot box, as entrepreneurs and in our community."
