AAPI Victory Fund Urges Democrats to Invest in Communities of Color

WASHINGTON — Today, the AAPI Victory Fund released the following statement regarding the state of investments by Democrats in communities of color at this phase of the midterm election cycle. They stress how vitally important it is to invest in communities of color and underline the impact the results of this year’s elections will have on not only communities of color, but the country as a whole.

AAPI Victory Fund President and CEO Brad Jenkins issued the following statement:

“After the AAPI electorate’s historic turnout in 2020, it is imperative for candidates to once again reach, empower, and mobilize the AAPI electorate in order to continue that momentum into November’s elections. The outcome from the midterm elections will determine the fate of democracy in this country and too many times we have seen the AAPI community left out of campaigns’ outreach efforts.”

“Now is the time for Democrats to invest in the rapidly growing and increasingly engaged AAPI electorate because the results from this election will impact millions of people’s lives and the future of democracy.”

AAPI Victory Fund Founder and Chairman Shekar Narasimhan issued the following statement:

“We are three months out from this year’s midterm elections, making it the perfect time for Democrats to invest in efforts to reach communities of color. Candidates, specifically Democrats, need to realize the importance of investing in the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities—because our electorate has the power to shape and influence the outcome of key elections in states such as Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania.”

“In order to pass progressive policies addressing gun violence, climate change, healthcare, and voting rights, communities of color must be included in outreach efforts. We cannot let campaigns forget about us because our vote can decide the future of our democracy.”

Democracy Alliance President Pamela Shifman issued the following statement:

“Communities of color are our democracy's greatest defenders. They are organizing and winning on reproductive rights, climate justice, workers' rights and so much more, despite a long history of under-investment. This year’s midterms will hinge on Democrats’ ability to correct this history and marshall many more resources to the people of color-led organizations leading our way. It’s an opportunity we can’t afford to lose.”
