AAPI Victory Fund Applauds Biden-Harris Administration’s Commitment to Diversity on the U.S. Supreme Court

WASHINGTON - Today, President Biden announced his intent to nominate a Black woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, following the retirement of Justice Stephen Breyer. This announcement reaffirms his campaign pledge, and if his nominee is confirmed, will be the first Black woman to serve on our nation’s highest court.

AAPI Victory Fund Acting President Brad Jenkins issued the following statement:

“We applaud President Biden for fulfilling his promise to nominate a Black woman to the U.S. Supreme Court and increasing diversity in the judiciary. As we look at our government, it is important that all communities are  represented at all levels, including at the highest levels of the judiciary. The Biden-Harris administration has committed to just that, with a record number of federal judges of color confirmed, including ten AAPIs who were confirmed within his first year in office. There has yet to be an AAPI Supreme Court Justice, and we hope that President Biden will commit to nominating an AAPI for the very next vacancy on the bench.

“Right now, the AAPI Victory Fund is committed to extending the Democratic majority this election year, so the White House will have more opportunities to confirm qualified individuals that are representative of our communities. This is why we signed the historic MOU with our partners at The Collective PAC and Latino Victory Fund to build upon the momentum from 2020 so we can have more moments like today.”
