AAPI Victory Fund Supports Nevada’s Bid to Lead as The ‘First in the Nation’ State

WASHINGTON - Ahead of this week’s vote at the Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting, the AAPI Victory Fund strongly supports Nevada’s bid to be first in the nation in the nomination process in the 2024 presidential election.

Nevada is the third-most diverse state in the country and can fulfill the three criteria established by the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee: diversity, competitiveness, and feasibility.

AAPI Victory Fund President & CEO Brad Jenkins issued the following statement:

“As a critical battleground state in the 2016 and 2020 elections, and as a majority-minority state, Nevada should be the first state in the nation to cast ballots in the presidential primary because it is a true reflection of our country’s diverse electorate. Democrats have been presented with an opportunity to be responsive to their voting base - young Americans, progressives and communities of color -  to help select our party’s leaders. We urge the DNC to stand with Nevada in serving as first in the nation.”

AAPI Victory Fund Board Member Loida Lewis issued the following statement:

“Representation, community, and a reflective democracy are needed now more than ever, especially within the political spaces. The 'first in the nation' state must reflect our country’s communities. Democrats must seek to bring more people into the fold rather than push them away. Selecting Nevada to lead the nation is a step in the right direction.”
