AAPI VICTORY FUND ENDORSES SUHAS SUBRAMANYAM IN VIRGINIA’S 10TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
WASHINGTON D.C. — The AAPI Victory Fund, the only national political action committee devoted to mobilizing Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) voters and supporting AANHPI candidates for elected office, today endorsed Virginia State Senator Suhas Subramanyam in his run for Virginia 10th congressional district.
“Throughout his career in public service, Suhas Subramanyam has taken on tough fights – and he’s won those fights on behalf of people and communities too often left behind,” said Shekar Narasimhan, chairman and founder of the AAPI Victory Fund. “It’s because of this track record of results and fierce passion for justice that AAPI Victory Fund is honored to back Senator Subramanyam’s historic run for Congress. As a fellow Virginian, it would be a proud day to have the first-ever South Asian elected to represent Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.”
AAPI Victory Fund joins a broad coalition backing Subramanyam’s campaign, including VA-10’s incumbent Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton.
“I’m honored to be endorsed by AAPI Victory Fund in this critical race. Our campaign is about electing a representative who is from our local community who will make progress for our local community – from protecting democracy to stopping gun violence, we deserve a representative in Congress who will take on tough fights and win,” said Virginia State Senator Suhas Subramanyam. “That’s what I’ve done on the Hill, in the Obama White House, and in Richmond. AAPI Victory Fund is a welcome ally in our mission and I look forward to our long partnership together to elect more strong AAPI representatives.”
Subramanyam joins the slate of congressional candidates endorsed by AAPI Victory Fund. These candidates include Evan Low in CA-16, Derek Tran in CA-45, and Dave Min in CA-47 – all three of whom successfully advanced from their primaries to the November general election.
These candidates for federal office build on record numbers of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders who ran for office in both 2022 and 2023.
The AAPI electorate has largely been untapped. A survey from the summer of 2022 found more than half of AAPI voters have never been contacted by either political party – making AAPI Victory Fund’s work to engage these voters ever more critical.
Most recently, AAPI Victory Fund was behind a major independent expenditure program targeting AANHPI voters in New York’s 3rd Congressional District special election. The program targeted roughly 40,000 South Asian registered voters with focused messages deployed in four languages (English, Hindi, Urdu, and Arabic) and five modes of communication (multilingual direct mail, texting, live calls, robocalls, and in-language ads in prominent local cultural news outlets).
AAPI Victory Fund is planning further paid media campaigns in battleground states and key congressional races this fall to continue increasing AANHPI representation in elected offices and win elections for candidates that share our values.
